Are you looking for an easy and affordable way to update the look of your home? Consider installing laminate flooring! Laminate is a great option for homeowners who want the look of hardwood without the cost or complexity of installation. It comes in a variety of colors, styles, and textures that can help create any design aesthetic. Plus, it’s much easier to install than real wood floors – meaning you could save money on labor costs too!

In this blog post, we will give an overview of how to install laminate flooring as well as provide step-by-step instructions so you can tackle this project yourself with confidence.

Prepare to Install Your Laminate Floor

Before beginning your new laminate floor installation project several important steps need to be taken:

  • Choosing the right type and style of laminate flooring;

  • Measuring and calculating square footage needed;

  • Buying supplies: underlayment, expansion spacers, trim pieces, etc;

  • Subfloor preparation: Make sure it’s level and clean before starting;

  • Removing any existing baseboards or moldings to make room for new floors;

  • Installing vapor barrier if necessary (depending on the subfloor);

  • Layout plan for arranging planks in the desired pattern;

  • Cutting planks as needed to fit around door frames or other obstacles;

  • Moving furniture out from the area where you will be working and laying down drop cloths;

  • Setting up a saw station if cutting planks with a power saw;

  • Gather tools such as a tapping block, rubber mallet, pull bar, and measuring tape.

Laminate flooring installation process step by step

Now that all preparations have been made let’s begin installing your new laminate floor! The following step-by-step guide should help ensure success during each phase of this process:

  • Starting at one corner along the longest wall lay the first plank with the tongue side facing the wall;

  • Connect short-end joints by angling them into place and then pressing firmly together until they snap into position;

  • Continue laying each row of plank end joints connecting them securely using a tapping block/rubber mallet combination when necessary;

  • When reaching the last row use cut pieces to fill the space left between the wall edge and the last full-length piece;

  • Cut off excess material at walls using a handsaw/power saw depending on preference;

  • Install transition strips along all edges that meet higher surface levels like carpets or thresholds;

  • Securely attach quarter-round moldings around the perimeter of room h. Replace baseboards/moldings on walls;

  • Clean up workspace.

  • Enjoy your new floor!

Installing a laminate floor is a relatively simple process with few complications if done correctly. Taking the time to ensure each step in this process has been completed properly will provide you with many years of enjoyment from your new flooring investment. Good luck, and happy installing!
