When we carry out interior decoration, it is a tedious and disorderly project in itself. Especially in the foundation construction, it is inevitable to cause material damage such as ceramics due to negligence. In ancient times, people used to look for ways repairing broken ceramic items such as ceramic tile, ceramic vase, ceramic tableware or anything made of ceramic, but mostly throwing them out used to be the final decision. But the good news is, with the advancement of modern technology now, we can easily fix broken ceramics without replacing them using the simple glue made for ceramic. So how to fix broken ceramics with glue? How to glue broken ceramics? In this article, we present some easy steps on how to glue broken ceramics using Araldite which is a two-part epoxy adhesive.

Best Tools To Glue Ceramic Pieces Back Together

  • An old piece of perspex (mix a glue on)
  • Sandpaper (to roughen up the edge of the ceramic that you are gluing)
  • Duck tape (keep the two parts that you're gluing together whilst the glue dries)
  • A scraper (to trim away the excess adhesive)
  • A Stanley knife
  • Araldite adhesive

Tips On How To Glue Broken Ceramics

  1. Make sure you have all the broken pieces in one place. Set the pieces together to check if there are any missing pieces or not.
  2. Sightly brush the areas you need to glue with some sandpaper just to sort of slightly roughing up the edges and clean off any residual dirt.
  3. Then you have to dispense equal amounts from both tubes, so the way you do this is to squeeze lines of adhesive because that way you can more or less get the lines looking the same length and the same width.
  4. Now using the spatula that comes with it. Mix it together which you need to do for about 30seconds or at any rate until you're satisfied that you've thoroughly mixed the two parts of the adhesive together.
  5. Once you've done this, you've got about five minutes to apply the adhesive to the joints that need to be repaired before putting them together.
  1. Then start putting the adhesive onto the joint. You want to apply a reasonable amount and you meant to do it both sides of the joint. You apply the adhesive too thickly you get a lot squeezing out when you put the two joints together. If you don't put enough adhesive on, then you won't get a decent bond between the surfaces.
You shouldn't worry too much about the decent coming out when you squeeze the two sides together, because you can trim it off with a knife when it's partially dry. Then apply some adhesive also to the other part that you are joining, just to make sure we get a really good bond. So that's done.
  2. Carefully position two parts in place just press them together. You can probably see you have got a little bit of glue coming out of the joint but you shouldn’t worry too much about that, because it's a sign that you have got a really good bond and you can trim it away in a few minutes time. Apply the glue about ten minutes ago and it's just started to go off.
  3. So now is a good time to trim off the excess. Use your scraper, you'll see it comes off really easily leaving a nice neat join. Always keep your hands behind the blade when you're working with a sharp knife or scrape. So that's it, the job is now done.
  4. As you are done with your new ceramic item, you will see the mess you have created in the process. Don’t worry. Cleaning the epoxy glue is not a tough job. To wipe off the debris from the repairing work efficiently, you can use denature, alcohol, or acetone for cleaning the surface. If the epoxy seems too hard to remove, you can use the razor blade to scrape off.Do the cleaning job slowly and carefully as you don’t want to damage the ceramic tile surface.
