Swimming is a kind of exercise that the whole body muscles can exercise. More and more people choose to swim in the swimming pool as a way of fitness. Whether the water in the swimming pool is clean or not is a matter of concern to many people. Whether the swimming pool water is clean or not, besides the function of circulating water treatment equipment, is also related to the swimming pool cleaning and maintenance. Today, I would like to introduce a tutorial guide on how to clean the and maintain pool.

Pool Maintenance & Care Guide

Water Calculation

Circulate your water anywhere from 8 to 12 hours per day, this will help any algae and bacteria from building up on any surfaces and it's also help mix and disperse your chemicals properly. The best time to run the pump is in the day time and definitely when adding chemicals to the water.

Pools Need Consistent Chemical Levels

Chemical levels are arguably one of the most important facets of pool maintenance. Improperly balanced water looks murky, irritates skin and eyes, and can cause your pool to become a breeding ground for bacteria. Now during the swim season you're gonna want to test your water weekly to make sure it's maintaining a proper balance.

Testing The Water Chemistry

  • Check the water balance with a test kit, dip the test strip in the water and compare it to the chart. The pH should be between 7.2 and 7.6. Use a pH increaser or decreaser accordingly.
  • Check the sanitizer levels. Your most important maintenance routine is gonna be sanitizing the water, different kinds of sanitizers include chlorine, bromine and salt .
  • To prevent algae growth, you're gonna want to shock your pool weekly. It's also a good idea to stock it before and after pool parties heavy rains or any extended times of high temperatures, the most common problems pool owners face are cloudiness, and algae cloudiness can be caused by poor circulation, poor filtration and improper water balance. Frequent water testing and correcting is needed is an important part of your pool maintenance.
  • It's also a good idea to use an algaecide as part of your weekly maintenance. This is a good preventative measure to slow down algae growth.

Clean The Pool Surfaces

Routine cleaning should also be part of your regular maintenance.

  • Skim brush and vacuum all the surfaces, be sure to hit all the areas that have little circulation. These are prime spots for algae growth, so vacuums are really easy to use.
  • You're gonna start with your filter running, place the vacuum with the pull and hose attached into the pool, so it fills with water.
  • Take the open end of the hose, place it over one of the Jets to blow out all the air. Once you've stopped seeing any bubbles come out, have someone turn off the power at the filter, then without taking the end of the hose out of the pool.
  • Walk everything over to the skimmer. Insert an adapter on the skimmer intake, then hook up the hose.
  • Next, set the filter to waste and turn it on. This bypass is the system, you can start vacuuming the bottom of your pool, take it slow to give the vacuum time to work. Since you're removing water from the pool, you might have to refill it after vacuuming.
  • When you're finished cleaning, turn the filter off, remove the hose and the adapter and turn the system back to filter.

Backwash the Filter

Another important maintenance tip is to keep an eye on the filter pressure gauge. It reads 10 PSC higher than when the system was reloading or when it was cleaned, it's gonna have to be back washed, this is gonna clean the filter element through the steps of bad washing.

  1. So on our sand unit, start by turning off the power and then turn the multi-port valve to backwash.
  2. Now our systems backwash is tied directly into a drain, if yours isn't you'll have to get a backwash hose. Just make sure it's the right size for your outlet.
  3. Turn the filter on and run it for about 3 to 5 minutes or until the water is clean, you can check this through the sight glass on the back of the valve.
  4. Shut off the filter and turn it to rinse. Run the system for about 30 seconds. When it's clean, return the dial back to the filter setting.
  5. Open the air valve and turn on the system when the water starts coming out of the valve, close it and the filter cycle is started. Take note of the filter pressure.

And now that you know how to properly maintain your pool you'll be able to enjoy it more throughout the season!
